Fundraising in 2023 is not the simple task it has been in recent years, with the “denominator” effect curbing the enthusiasm of investors for this asset class. What is the state of the market and what is the best path to take when establishing a new fundraising vehicle?

Raffaele de Courten
Founding Partner, Alto Partners SGR. Raffaele de Courten co-founded Alto Partners in 2000 and serves as a Managing Director and Partner. In addition to supervising Alto Partners’ activities, he focuses on deal origination, debt structuring, fundraising and investors relations. Prior to founding Alto Partners, he was employed from 1998 to 2000 at the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg as counsel of the Italian Executive Vice President. From 987 to 1998, he was a Senior Manager of the corporate finance division at Mediobanca in Milano with responsibilities for the debt capital markets and structured products operations. Raffaele de Courten graduated in Business Administration from LUISS University in Rome. He was member of AIFI’s board of directors from 2010 to 2015, Chairman of its mid-market Commission from 2013 to 2015 and member of its Guarantee Committee from 2014 to 2021.

Thomas Mccomb
Managing Director, JPMorgan Asset Management. Thomas H. McComb, Managing Director, is a founding member of the Private Equity Group. Mr. McComb joined J.P. Morgan in 1999, prior to which he spent six years with AT&T Investment Management Corp. managing private equity assets. Additionally, he worked at NationsBanc Montgomery Securities as a private equity fund placement agent. Mr. McComb is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and has completed the Series 7 and 63 licenses. He holds a BS from Virginia Tech and an MS from Purdue University, each in Engineering, and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Currently, Mr. McComb serves on numerous private equity fund advisory committees.
